The History Of The Teapot
14Aug06
Although tea originated in China, the teapot as we know it (you know…the one with that characteristic spout that gave rise to “I’m a little teapot, short and stout”) was developed in Europe during the mid 1600′s. At the time, Europe lacked the porcelain technology to produce a quality teapot, so the British East India Company commissioned teapots based on European designs from manufacturers in China.
I found this great piece on teapot history. Fascinating stuff.
