Tea House in Krakow

It looked great, but was closed. Oh well…..perhaps on our next trip.
If any of the readers of this blog (yes, both of you!) have been here, I’d love to hear what it’s like. It’s located in Krakow’s Kazimierz district.
Incidentally, tea is immensely popular in Poland. Every little cafe we visited had several high quality loose teas on offer. As far as large-scale tea companies go, Dilmah tea seems to have made some major inroads into the Polish market. There’s even a local TV commercial featuring Merrill J. Fernando, the Dilmah founder. Speaking Polish, no less.

Edinburgh, 8 Aug 2007 I was in this Kazimierz teahouse a couple of days ago – it’s open from 1300 to 1900 hours. The range of teas and devotion to their preparation is really impressive. The atmosphere of the place is relaxing with an area for Japanese-style drinking though they don’t do the full Japanese ceremony. There’s also a Turkish-style room with hookahs.
The main range are Chinese teas but there are also Japanese, Indian, Ceylon and Turkish. The emphasis throughout is on quality and ensuring they source directly. Where teas have a short shelflife they are purchased fresh and served as long as that batch lasts.
Not surprisingly not everything on the list is always available. I wanted to try the Tie Guan Yin Supergrade, Puerla, or a couple of the top grade Yellow teas but they were temporarily out of stock. We did try the Song Yang Yin Hou (Silver Monkey’s Paw), a smooth rounded refreshing green tea that allows several infusions, and bought Pu-er leaves to bring home.
They’re part of the Dobra Tea group and their stock/menu is listed at http://www.dobratea.com. Go to ‘Our Tea Menu’ for the list.
Strongly recommended if you’re visiting Krakow. Go for a cup each rather than a pot if you want to sample more than one. The server speaks good English.
Jon: Thanks so much for the terrific information. I wish we could have stopped by when we were there. It’s high on the list for my next trip to Krakow!
Hi, this teahouse is on ul. Jozefa (Joseph) in Kazimierz. I used to live about two doors down from it, next to the old synagogue. And you know what? I have never been in it. But now I am definately going and then I will let you know what it is like!
Hi all – just to let you know – we have a small site describing all what is exciting in Krakow – have a look at it, it’s address is http://www.roomwithaviewkrakow.com – enjoy, we do writing it!
