Indian Tea Slips to 4th Place

India has now slipped to fourth place in the volume of tea exports, says the Indian Tea Association. It now trails Kenya, Sri Lanka and China.

Hopefully that will change relatively quickly, as the ITA has made tea exports a major part of their upcoming growth strategy.

There’s a lot of work to be done.

  1. This revives nostalgic memories. I worked in the kedia group for three years about 15 years ago and was sent to Calcutta to see the prospects of tea exports. We subsequesntly abandoned the idea but it was a very good experience. It is quite an intricate subject.

  2. Thanks for the note Hiren. That’s interesting about your work at the Kedia Group. Why was the project abandoned? Were you working with the Indian Tea Association at all or was this a private initiative?
